John -- who was born and raised in Fox Point, attended Brown as an undergraduate and for graduate school, and is now a Wheeler School faculty member -- has proven himself to be extremely effective in a very short time; he organized the Providence Coalition of Neighborhood Associations; helped turn out a big crowd to oppose the two-tiered residential tax proposal last spring; and is in favor of regulating student housing developers (unlike some of the other candidates, who represent special interests).
